Titanic History
J Bruce Ismay Chairman of White Star Line and Lord W J Pirrie Chairman of Harland and Wolff Shipbuilders Belfast reached agreement in 1907 for the construction of three new passenger ships for White Star Line.
These ships were to be largest and most luxurious passenger ships yet built. The trio of Olympic Class ships were to be named Olympic, Titanic, and Gigantic (The name Gigantic was later changed to Britannic after the loss of Titanic).
